This stunning little gem is a pitch perfect Sauvignon – very fine, pure, delicate and crisp, with the typical struck flint aroma you get from the famous vineyards of the region.
Like all top class Sauvignon Blanc from this point in the Loire Valley, this wine is laden with mineral flavours with particularly distinct flinty notes. On the palate, there is a well-balanced citrus and gooseberry twang, underpinned by a slight smokiness.
More specifically, the nose starts with a touch of soft white pepper and a hint smoke, and a fresh palate of struck-flint richness follows to a long finish.
The Maker:
Maison Lispaul is a small family estate located in Tracy sur Loire, in the heart of Pouilly-Fumé. The estate was founded by David Maudry and wife, Shirley, who named their domaine in honour of their children, Lison and Paul-Henri.
David Maudry’s family have a long old history of wine production in Tracy-Sur-Loire. This Sauvignon Blanc comes from young vines directly next to their Pouilly-Fumé vineyard. Whilst this vineyard remains unclassified, the soils and aspect are the same, indeed the wine tastes almost identical (at a fraction of the price). With a round about translation that means “nearly” or “roughly”, À Peu Prés pokes at the fact that this Sauvignon comes, as such, from an unclassified vineyard. So here you have a vino that’s nearly Pouilly-Fumé for a pinch of the price. If you’re new to wine, that means buy me now.
Food Pairing:
Delicious with light fish, shellfish, perhaps a salmon quiche… it’s almost like adding a squeeze of lemon to your dish. We can also recommend enjoying this wine with a light salads and goat’s cheese.
