The Wine:
A robust red that showcases the bold character of southern Italy. Made predominantly from Negroamaro, it offers deep flavours of dark berries, dried herbs, and hints of spice, all wrapped in a velvety texture. The finish is smooth yet powerful, reflecting the warmth of Puglia’s sun-drenched vineyards.Deep red in colour and with a pleasant and intense nose. This wine is bursting with red berries.
Dry, full, robust, velvety, warm and well balanced.
This Reserva is from the Salice Salentino DOC, the very heel of the boot in Puglia. Once poured, the wine shows the signature Puglian grape Negroamaro’s typical dark color, and the aroma is a lively mix of plums and blackberry along with cloves and a hint of figs. It is relatively light on the palate, but the berry and plum flavors are sustained, ending with a wisp of tobacco.
This is a beautifully balanced and structured wine. The full-bodied character is supported by well-integrated tannins that lend a pleasant grip without overwhelming the palate. Plums and blackberries return on the taste buds, interwoven with hints of liquorice and dark chocolate. The influence of oak ageing becomes apparent with subtle suggestions of vanilla and toasted notes, adding further dimension to the flavour profile. The finish is long and lingering, leaving a lasting impression of ripe fruit and spice.
The Maker:
Marchese di Borgosole originates from Puglia, the “heel” of Italy’s boot. Steeped in winemaking tradition, the region boasts sunshine-drenched vineyards and a dedication to indigenous grape varietals. This particular expression is a Riserva, signifying stricter production regulations and extended ageing, resulting in a wine of greater complexity and depth.
Casa Vinicola Botter is a family-owned winery that was founded in 1928 in the Veneto region of Italy. Today, the winery is run by the third generation of the Botter family, who have expanded their operations to include vineyards and wineries in other regions of Italy, such as Puglia and Tuscany.
The Botter family is committed to sustainable and responsible winemaking practices, and they have been recognized for their efforts with numerous awards and certifications. The winery has a state-of-the-art production facility that is equipped with the latest technology to ensure the quality and consistency of their wines.
Food Pairing:
This wine is a classic partner for richly flavoured dishes. Think roasted meats, tomato-based pasta, or aged cheeses – all of which complement its depth and intensity beautifully. A timeless Italian red that brings authenticity and heart to the table.
Succulent steaks, lamb chops, or grilled sausages pair beautifully. Cheeses like Pecorino Romano or mature cheddar create a delightful contrast with the wine’s tannins. The creaminess of the cheese balances the structure of the wine, while the salty notes complement the fruit flavours.
Don’t dismiss the potential of this wine with vegetarian options. Mushroom risotto or roasted vegetables with balsamic reduction can be a surprising and delightful combination. The earthy notes in the wine will resonate with the flavours of the dish.
