The Wine:
This exclusive release from a very small boutique producer is hands down one of the best Pet Nats we have ever tasted. It’s fresh, it’s complex and it’s stunningly flavourful.
Very light pink colour, cloudy appearance, and bursting with aromas of raspberries, strawberries, cranberries, along with some citrusy and orchard fruit notes. Subtle hints of almonds and mineral undertones are utterly captivating. Delicate fizz and a vibrant acidity make it a perfect wine for any celebration, with or without food.
Georgiev & Milkov Pet Nat was made in Blanc de Noir style. The grape is Mavrud – a Bulgarian black variety with an ancient history. Grapes were hand-picked from 40 year old vineyards in the region of Asenovgrad, known to be the birthplace of Mavrud. Further on, grapes were quickly pressed to avoid any prolonged contact with the skins. Thus, the juice remained white. The wine was wildly fermented with minimum intervention and no added sulphites. Fermentation was completed in the bottle resulting in beautiful, gentle fizz.
In summary, with pronounced fruit aromas of raspberries, strawberries and fresh herbs, this slightly sparkling, elegant pet-nat has great freshness, is light to medium bodied with intense notes of red fruits and a fresh long finish. Delicious!
The Maker:
Georgiev & Milkov wine project came to life thanks to the long time friendship of two oenologists, Petar Georgiev and Radostin Milkov. They gained their experience working at wineries around the world, from Austria to New Zealand. However, they both dreamed of making world-class wines in their homeland, Bulgaria. In 2014 Petar and Radostin joined forces and thus one of the boldest wine initiatives of modern Bulgaria was born.
Georgiev & Milkov combine the ancient traditions with modern winemaking approach, making effortlessly stylish wines with a real sense of place. Their wines reveal the beauty of Bulgarian indigenous grape varieties.
The grapes are hand picked and hand sorted, spontaneous fermentation happens in small tanks with constant temperature control. The wines are aged in a mixture of Bulgarian and French oak barrels and the resulting quality is truly impressive.
Georgiev & Milkov Pet Nat wine is gorgeously fruity, with an impressively persistent fizz.
