The Wine:
This has the trademark refreshing character of Bordeaux of yesteryear, with that pencil graphite character, which still gives me a kick every time you nose that classic aroma. Graphite, autumnal fruits, coffee bean, soft, subtle leather, and typical lovely Bordeaux gravelly character, with tissue fine tannins, while retaining a warmth and generosity. It’s got the aromas and some of the flavours of the Medoc, but with the charm of the right bank.
The Maker:
Winner of ‘Coup de Coeur’ for best wine in its appellation – in Guides des Vin de France. Based across the river from St Julien and Margaux, in the Cotes de Blaye. Bordeaux is blessed with small producers who are below the radar. The best thing is they are great value. But there are plenty that don’t make the grade.
Food Pairing:
Pairs exceptionally well with various meat dishes, including classic roasts, as well as hard cheeses.
