The Maker:
Made by friends, for friends, the Friendsips range is a collaboration between the team at the Jolly Merchants and Zagreus Winery. Their aim was to create a concept of young, vibrant, jolly and engaging wines that feel modern and drink elegantly, revealing the authenticity and beauty of the indigenous Bulgarian grape varieties Dimyat and Mavrud blended alongside the most successful international grape varieties grown in the country. Friendsips are wines that “jump out of the glass and hug you”, “wear a suit and a pair of sneakers” and deserve to be shared amongst friends at any occasions.
VINEYARDS: The grapes are sourced from private growers – the Merlot vineyard is 15 year old, North – South facing, and the Rubin – 9 year old facing East – West. Both vineyards are on carbonated soils with high mineral content.
WINEMAKING: The grapes are handpicked in small trays. Both varieties are vinified separately – fermentation of the pressed juice in small inox vessels. Maceration with the skins for several days under constant temperature control followed by alcoholic fermentation. A month later the wines also go through malolactic fermentation.
Food Pairing:
BBQ dishes, lamb, pork, sausages, pasta, vegetarian dishes, soft cheeses.
