A 50/50 blend of Furmint and Lipovina grapes from a 40 year old vineyard with chalk/clay soils and bedrock of tuffs. Elevation of 150M. After harvest the grapes were de-stemmed, crushed and left on skins for 24 hours. The juice was fermented and matured in small oak barrels where it stayed on fine lees for 2 years.

Off dry in style this wine has some residual sugar bringing sweetness and texture. Oxidative notes develop into signature Tokaj nose and taste. Great potential for ageing.

Matus works with the signature Tokaj grape varieties: Furmint, Lipovina (Hárslevelű) and Yellow Muscat, however patches of Muscat Ottonel and Welsh Riesling can be found in his vineyards too.

Matus is spearheading natural wine production in the region and along with two of his winemaking friends, started a group promoting this winemaking approach called Tokaj Underground.

Under this project they keep the classical, rustic way of wine production alive, although they are not afraid of experimenting and pushing the boundaries including through the use of Georgian amphoras.
